The Dewey Decimal Classification is being challenged by METIS, a new emerging classification system for K-12 students. METIS is child-centered, visually engaging, and uses whole language labeling, and an alphabetical arrangement. Many elementary and middle school librarians are adopting this new system. The key question is: Why did the librarians decide to switch? In particular, why this new system?
